Experimental Landscape Painting

with Victoria Young Jamieson

This workshop is ideal for those seeking a deeper artistic experience, and explore painting with ink and acylic to create abstract landcapes oozing with colour and texture.

Join artist Victoria Young-Jameson for a journey into experimental painting. This immersive course invites you to break free from traditional approaches and open up to spontaneity, play, and discovery in your creative process.

Each week, you’ll explore ways to manipulate ink and acrylic to express natural forms that evolve into abstracted landscapes. Through guided exercises, you’ll learn to work intuitively - allowing unexpected textures, flows, and ‘happy accidents’ to guide your work.

Rather than following strict rules, Victoria encourages you to trust the process and move a painting forward without knowing exactly where it will end. Over the five weeks, you’ll develop confidence in your ability to experiment, embrace mistakes, and find new possibilities in your art.

What you’ll gain:

  • Techniques for working experimentally with ink and acrylic

  • Approaches to developing abstract forms into landscapes

  • Greater confidence in spontaneous, process-led painting

  • The ability to use ‘happy accidents’ as creative opportunities

  • A deeper sense of play, openness, and curiosity in your art practice

About the space

All our workshops take place in our downstairs studio, which offers step-free access. Led by our talented community of local artists and tutors, each session includes all the materials you’ll need—though you’re welcome to bring your own if there’s something special you’d like to use.

We have a range of seating options to keep you comfortable, including high workbenches with stools, standard tables and chairs, and easels.

Tea and coffee are available at every workshop, and you’re always welcome to BYOB. Toilets are located on the ground floor.

Studio Sherborne is set in a characterful old industrial unit. While we’ll do our best to keep things cosy, the space can be a little chilly at times—so we recommend bringing an extra layer or two to stay warm and comfortable.

Meet your host

Victoria Young Jamieson

‘I’m constantly inspired by the landscapes and environments I encounter, from the sweeping views of the countryside to the quiet details of everyday life. The skies, roads, and natural forms I see over and over again hold a special kind of resonance for me. These familiar settings become something otherworldly in my work- half remembered, half imagined.

My process is one of constant experimentation; the process of layering and removing paint allows me to create depth and surprise. I often build up and break down the canvas until it takes on its own rhythm, revealing shapes and colours that feel intuitive and meaningful. It’s not always a clear or straightforward path, but that sense of discovery is what fuels my work. Each piece is a moment of realisation, where something profound emerges out of the chaos.
