Social Art Club - Collaborative Painting Workshop with Erica Fairhurst & Claudia Dharamshi

Erica and Claudia will jointly host this painting evening to create a group painting on a giant paper tablecloth, which will be cut up and shared out at the end of the session. Together they will informally guide the process of painting a still life of flowers, using various materials, including oil pastels and watercolour and inks, whilst joining in the process. We will be moving around the table, so that the finished piece is a collaborative work. We will intentionally loosen up, through various drawing/painting exercises.

Using acrylic paint - or medium of your choice - to experiment with different ways of placing colour.  She will look at using the colours straight out of the tube, alongside mixed colours. Learn how to mix greys and put complimentary colours together. We will work from a simple still life, or a photograph of your choice, and experiment how to recreate this on paper all whilst enjoying the process.

Christmas Calligraphy with Nicki Darling

Christmas is quite possibly the best time of the year for calligraphy! Join this Christmas Brush Pen Calligraphy class and get ahead of the game to send thoughtful, handmade cards and add beautiful tags to all of your gifts this year.

In this two-hour workshop, you will learn the techniques necessary to produce beautiful lettering. A workbook will be provided as well as your own professional brush pen duo which is yours to take home and keep practising.

If you've always wanted to learn calligraphy but felt a little overwhelmed and daunted by it, or not knowing how to start, then this is the class for you! Your tutor, Nicki, is on hand to give you individual support as you learn this impressive new skill giving you the confidence to make cards, tags and bookmarks.

About the space

Our workshops take place either upstairs mezzanine or our downstairs studio, which offers step-free access. (Double check when booking) Led by our talented community of local artists and tutors, each session includes all the materials you’ll need - though you’re welcome to bring your own if there’s something special you’d like to use.

We have a range of seating options to keep you comfortable, including high workbenches with stools, standard tables and chairs, and easels.

Tea and coffee are available at every workshop, and you’re welcome to BYOB. Toilets are located on the ground floor.

Studio Sherborne is set in a characterful old industrial unit. While we’ll do our best to keep things cosy, the space can be a little chilly at times—so we recommend bringing an extra layer or two to stay warm and comfortable.
